Lisa-perfectly normal slasher

So, yeah. That Happened.

Yay Friday!

I'm literally sitting at my computer in a t-shirt and my undies, and just completely chilling out. I had a fairly busy week, work-wise, (actually, a couple of busy weeks, as (almost) all of the extensions we filed back in April were now due September 15th. Well, 16th since the 15th is a Sunday) but my part is done, so I can veg for a night before jumping into doing bills and cleaning out the clutter that used to be my apartment. (At least it's not anywhere near hoarder levels?)

But I'm a terrible pack rat. Always have been. I save everything! I started cleaning out my closet over the summer, and on that front best_of_five and xingou came shopping in my closet and I gave them a bunch of clothes (mostly work stuff) that I don't wear or need anymore. It's nice to have space. Now I just have to tackle the shoe racks and the billionty shoes on the floor of my closet ... And get rid of other stuff I don't wear anymore or that's too big for me. As well as things I don't use anymore but keep for some bizarre nostalgia's sake. Except my t-shirts. Yes, I have 4 drawers of t-shirts, and no, I am not throwing any of them away!! Not even the ones from college that are a wee bit small ... The sad thing is that this was supposed to be my Spring project. *checks calendar* Oops?

So, in other news, I went on a date last night. And also last weekend. And I suppose it's safe to say that I'm now dating. after nine years of self-imposed celibacy The lucky guy? My ex-boyfriend from twenty-two years ago, who still seems to like me and thinks I'm pretty neat, so there's that. :-P

His name is Bill, and he lives in Jersey, but the funny thing is that when we dated the first time, he lived in Staten Island, so it's really not much further now. Well, there are more tolls I suppose. (At least there's EZ-Pass now?) He works in Manhattan, though, so that's not too bad, distance-wise. It almost feels like it should have been awkward - I mean, twenty-two years have passed! He was my first internet boyfriend before the internet even officially existed. We met on an old BBS site that some guy ran from his house in Brooklyn. Oh, the good old days when a 2400 baud modem was lightning fast!

He's also six years younger than me, which isn't an issue at all now, but back then it raised a few eyebrows ... (for those doing the math, he was 18 when we met and I was 24. :-P) And speaking of, here's an amusing aside: I like to assign different ringtones to people on my mobile, so as a joke, I made my tone for him a SHINee song called "Replay (Noona, you're so pretty)" which is a song about a younger guy pining for an older woman (Noona - which technically means "sister" but it's a term guys use for women who are older (but not too old!)) So when I told him this, he made his ringtone for me "Mrs. Robinson." CLEARLY WE WERE MEANT FOR EACH OTHER!!!

He also knows all about fandom (now that I've explained it, though it's still early in our Fandom101 lessons) and I don't know if he's just smitten, a masochist, or what, but he even read one of my fics. In fact, he decided to start with the porniest one - With a Little Help From My Friends, which is a Remus/Sirius/James fic. His verdict was: "I think you are super talented and while the topic doesn't turn me on, your brain does." ♥ (Ok, maybe I'm a bit smitten, too!) As you might imagine, it was a hell of a first date:

B: So what have you been up to these past 22 years?

L: I write gay porn. Wanna see?

Okay, it wasn't QUITE like that - I said hello first! - but still. I kind of made myself a promise that if I ever did date again (something I really didn't expect, but whoomp, there it is!) I wasn't going to hide that part of me, and I refused to be embarrassed by it (because I'm not!) The fact that Bill and I have a history just made it easier, and even comfortable. (I still can't believe he started with THAT FIC, though! Ha! He's a real trooper!)

So, yeah. That happened. And now if his name comes up, you'll know who I'm talking about. :-P

OMG! I'm dating again! Is this Bizarro World, or what? I don't even have a tag for this!

Saiyuki - Ukoku O HAI

OH HAI!

Um, hi! *waves*

So I kind of went on a bit of a hiatus this summer for reasons which I still don't really know, but which probably, if one were to flow-chart them, would all end up pointing to a big bubble that proclaimed "I am the laziest fucker EVER!"

Just in case you didn't already know that.

But right above "I am the laziest fucker EVER!" would be a bubble that said "Korean Dramas ATE MY BRAAAAAAIIIIIIINNNNN!" which is also apt. And I will even discuss two of them in particular because they were just THAT awesome (!!!) but not right now, because of course, today I have to go to my brother-in-law's client's office and do real work that doesn't consist of "work for half an hour ---> reward self by playing on internet for an hour ---> rinse/repeat ad infinitum." But it pays pretty well, so I can't complain. Extra money is always \o/!

But still, I wanted to pop in and say "AINT'NT DED YET" and also "HI!!!!!!!!! HOW ARE ALL OF YOU??? I'VE MISSED YOU GUYS!!!!!!! TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU'VE BEEN DOING SINCE JUNE!!!!!!!!"

(Interjections, show excitement, or emotion ....)

!!!!!!!!! *hyperventilates*!!!!!!!!!

I am a ridiculous puddle of flaily fangirl at the moment. It's kind of pathetic. But if I can't share my ridiculousness with you guys, then what's the point of fandom?? :-P

Okay, so as I mentioned in my last post, we met the lovely Clark Gregg Wednesday night at a screening of his movie Trust Me, which he wrote, directed, and starred in. We saw the Premiere Saturday night, and got to meet him briefly then, but it was the premiere, he was clearly nervous (and adorable! OMG! SO ADORABLE!) and he had the afterparty to go to when we cornered him after the movie saw him when he was leaving, so it was a brief encounter.

Wednesday night's screening was much more relaxed, it was a smaller theater than the one the premiere was held in, and the Q&A was more ... intimate. (It was just him. Saturday night, his co-stars, Sam Rockwell, Felicity Huffman, Amanda Peet, Saxon Sharbino, (who is a new, young up-and-coming actress and who was just fabulous in the movie!) Paul Sparks, (from Boardwalk Empire) and a few others were there with him, and it was much more formal - red carpet, press, Michael J Fox and Angelina Jolie there, etc.)

So, Wednesday's post-movie Q&A. Emboldened, I raised my hand to ask a question, and he called on me. I can't divulge the question without massive spoilers, but it was basically one asking about the aesthetic choice for something to do with his character, Howard, at the end of the movie. And well, the word "ugly" sort of came out. But in a funny way! I swear! He was all, "Now I'm heartbroken. That's me you're talking about!" but clearly good-natured about it.

Still, for the rest of the night, bethbethbeth and I joked about how I insulted him and his artistic choices, because, well. :-P

So today, we were tweeting about Disney/ABC picking up the new S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot and, well, this happened:

Cut for ridiculous guilty fangirl tweeting, although I can"t actually embed the pretty tweets themselves because apparently DW and LJ don"t let you because javascript is evil... IDEK - **Or not. Pics of embeds are there when I open the page in a new tab. WHATEVER!Collapse )

So, in conclusion (as at the start) I am a ridiculous and pathetic fangirl, I know, because really, it's fucking TWITTER(!!) but I'm a HAPPY ridiculous and pathetic fangirl and I don't care! Also, did I mention HOW FUCKING ADORABLE HE IS?? You know, just in case you were wondering or in doubt.

Right. So how is your Friday going?

!!!

So, just in case you didn't know, CLARK GREGG IS THE MOST FUCKING ADORABLE MAN IN THE HISTORY OF ... well, EVER!!

And he signed my Phil Coulson S.H.I.E.L.D business card from the Tesseract Box Set thingy. (Yes, I had a fangirl moment.)

Crap, I need to go to bed, but I felt this was something important you all needed to know.

That is all.

For now, at least. :-P

Things that are making me happy today

In no particular order:

1. bethbethbeth and I snagged tickets for the World Premiere of Clark Gregg's new movie, Trust Me, at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2 1/2 weeks. I may have spent a scary amount of yesterday morning doing the geeky dance of joy around my apartment. (The email in my inbox, titled: "Clark Gregg (@clarkgregg) mentioned you on Twitter!" may also have contributed somewhat to said dance. What? Like you didn't already know I was a ridiculous fangirl!) Also, today is Clark Gregg's birthday, an event that is making my tumblr dash a joy to read today. I mean, look how adorkable this man is! ♥ ♥

2. Thanks to my dealer, momebie, new concept art from Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier:

Only a year and two days to go!!! (Also! Look at Steve's awesome clothes!!!)

3. Well, I suppose there may be one or two of you who haven"t seen this splashed everywhere, so I shall cut for potential Doctor Who 50th Anniversary spoilers. Also because I"m putting up the big image. Because!Collapse )

4. On Friday, I can haz a best_of_five!!

Things that are not so awesome? FUCKING TAX SEASON! Bleh. It's interfering with my fannish wants and needs!

But! I did manage to write another 3K or so over the weekend on Chapter 4 of my ridiculous Avengers/HP fic, and by ridiculous, I mean "Mmmmmmm, crack!" although it seems to be my mission in fic-life to make otherwise cracky premises work. (For values of "work", of course.) So the current chapter is at @5,500 words, and will likely be at least 2K longer before it goes to beta (after which, it might be half that length or possibly twice as long. Because I totally roll that way.) I'd like to get it done over the next week, but *see #4* I'll definitely have more time after the 15th to write, though. Not that my work ends by any means, but extensions mean I'll have a lot more breathing room when things aren't due until August or September 15. *Note to future self: Do not start ridiculously ambitious fic during the month before Tax Day*

Okay, this is supposed to be a things that make me happy post, so no more work stuff allowed! Well, except for the part where I really have to stop faffing around on the internet and get back to work so I can pay for the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled (10-Disc Limited Edition Six-Movie Collector's Set I bought a couple of days ago on a whim. Whims will be the death of me. I mean, I already own all the individual movie DVDs but clearly I'm a sucker for sexy packaging and EXTRAS!) But the fact that it's supposed to arrive today is ALSO making me happy, so there is that! \o/

Oh! And IM3! Tix should go on sale soonish! Who's in?

Fun videos of the day!

First is a Star Wars "Death Star Truther" video, which is absolutely hilarious. The destruction of the Death Star was an inside job!

Second is a link to a fan-made trailer: What if HP and the Half Blood Prince movie was a teen rom-com?

Also, spaceygoodness of the day: I have been terribly remiss, but for those of you in the mid-northern latitudes with an unobstructed and non-cloudy western view just after sunset, go take a gander and see if you can spot Comet PanSTARRS! The twitter feed for Virtual Astronomer has a ton of pics sent in by people all over the world.

I saw it very briefly last week, but then **CLOUDS**. Blergh. (And sand in my shoes for nothing. Woe.) And it's been shitty weather here ever since. Maybe you lot will have better luck!

FIC: Let Slip the Dogs of War - [Avengers/HP - Remus/Sirius | Clint/Coulson - PG-13] (WIP)

So, I've committed fic. Crossover fic. It's a WIP, and pretty much as it says on the tin:

Let Slip the Dogs of War (4431 words) by MidniteMarauder
Chapters: 2/?
Fandom: The Avengers (2012), Marvel Cinematic Universe, Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Sirius Black/Remus Lupin, Clint Barton/Phil Coulson
Characters: Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Clint Barton, Phil Coulson, Natasha Romanov, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, Thor (Marvel)
Additional Tags: Animal Transformation, Corgi!Clint, Crossover, Magic, Humor, New York City - the new Hellmouth, Crack
Summary:

Sirius Black and Remus Lupin are living in New York City. Clint Barton, unfazed by aliens, gods, and Doombots alike, probably shouldn't be so surprised to find out that wizards actually exist. (Or the one where Clint gets turned into a Corgi and makes an Animagus friend.)

Truncated Author's Notes: HUGE thanks to my betas, whymzycal, bethbethbeth, and red_squared, who give the best ball-busting critiques and help save me from myself. Title from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. Also, for purposes of this story, it's 2012, Remus & Sirius survived, are raising Teddy, and have moved to NYC. Avengers-wise, it's MCU (movie) canon only with theft of 616 villains only.

*

I almost wish I could say "I have no idea where this came from", except that would be a lie. :-P There's a thing in the Clint/Coulson section of fandom where someone posted a prompt on the kink meme with a corgi .gif asking for fic where Clint gets turned into a corgi. I have a serious weakness for these stories (and there are several!) which is probably magnified tenfold by my history of MWPP-Remus/Sirius love, because, you know, Sirius is a dog. And then one day (with some enabling) my brain just kind of thought, "Ah - Two great tastes that taste great together!" and gave me a craving for Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

I've only posted the first two chapters, although the third is (longer! and) complete (and betaed!) and I'm a couple thousand words into the fourth, but I haven't posted a WIP since my Trixie Belden days, and I want to get a bit more of the story solidified on 'paper'. When I write, especially long stories, what tends to happen -- even when I have things plotted out (as I do here) -- is that I'll get near the end and some new *idea* will pop into my head (or one of my betas will point something out) that I must add to the story right NOW. Lots of times that involves adding things to earlier parts to seed the idea. Which is great - I love when that happens. Only it's not so great when it happens and you've already posted most of the story and now you can't retcon it. :-P

I'm figuring six chapters, but again, this is me, the person who thought she could write a short rs_small_gifts 1,000-3,000 word fic. And we know how most of those turned out. (News flash: 13K, 10K, 20K. Current fic has 13K written, though only 4,400 posted.)

So yeah. That. Um, Hi?

War is (not) Over ... if you want it

I'm apparently feeling "share-y" today.

So, apparently Sarah Palin is writing a Christmas book. I know! Exciting news, isn't it? But not just any Christmas book, no! She's writing a book about the War on Christmas, and her book is titled "A Happy Holiday IS a Merry Christmas." Cleverboots!

Alexandra Petri over at the Washington Post wrote an amusing column about it but this is my favorite bit:

I was hoping the book would be aimed at children and would be some sort of variation on How The Secular Grinches Stole “Christ” Out of Christmas. But, alas, it apparently isn’t.

“Why are you taking my Christmas tree, why?” Cindy Lou Palin-Who? would ask, looking sad, and the Grinch would reply that it was because Harry Reid had given him specific instructions to do so and that later he was going to come back with first lady Michelle Obama, take away Cindy Lou’s candy canes and force her to do jumping jacks. The one bright spot in an otherwise bleak story would be Cindy Lou’s discovery of Clean Coal in her stocking. Everything would end with the Whos holding hands and feeling benevolent toward all men (except the Whos outside the circle who did not celebrate Christmas and found this whole thing kind of awkward.) I could picture it being very heartwarming. I would read all the copies of it you put in front of me. Heck, if she doesn’t use this idea, I might pitch it myself. Or at the very least, rework it for my Put Thor Back In Thursday campaign.

For the record, not only would I buy that hypothetical book (well not technically buy if Palin wrote it, but I'd totally read it!) I am completely on board with the Put Thor Back In Thursday campaign! Someone should start a White House petition for that!

Impulse Shopping

I may have caved and bought THIS T-SHIRT on a whim. JUST BECAUSE! :-P

And last week, while sick, I bought these shoes in blue. (Though I was tempted by the red!)

Also, this t-shirt because, well, Hawkguy!

Not that I really need any of those things. (Well, maybe the sandals. I have way too many t-shirts. 50 is a conservative estimate. I'm not kidding. Mostly because I keep them until they shred because I get ... attached. I still have t-shirts from the '80s. Seriously! (And some of them even still fit!))

But ... WHIM!

And I will continue to tell myself that when I look at my bank statement and wonder where the hell all my money went.

Day at the Museum and other sordid tales

Ugh, I'm sick with a nasty cold, and my skin feels all thin and tingly in a bad way, and I can't even sit up, much less lie down without wriggling around like an exposed earthworm. UGH doesn't even begin to cover it.

So I will distract myself with fun things! Fun things like:

1. I am completely addicted to Earth_Pics on twitter. (They have an Instagram account now, too. Also on facebook.)

They post pics of landscapes, architecture, spacey goodness, animals - all kinds of stuff! Baby giraffes! Baby pandas that fit in your hands! (Or a Panda on a rocking horse!) Icebergs! Whitehaven Beach in Australia! Castles on a cliff in the southern Ukraine! Tropical beaches! Austrian villages at night! - from all over the world, and it's awesome and gorgeous and breathtaking and adorable and I want to go to ALL THE PLACES!

Seriously addicting, but seriously awesome!

2. You can have NASA email or text you when the International Space Station is due to make a flyover of your town! So you can go out and try to spot it, weather and ambient light conditions permitting.

Okay, that's enough distracting for now, because seriously, I wasn't kidding about the Earth_Pics site!

Last weekend, bethbethbeth and I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC. (The cafe had awesome coconut cupcakes, btw!) See, this wouldn't be that big a thing, except for the fact that itwasmyfirsttime. Yes, I know. I've lived in the NYC metro area my whole life and I'd never been to any museums outside of NatHistory/Rose Museum/Hayden Planetarium and the Museum of Sex. So, upon hearing of my lack of culture, Beth, who is my Personal Procurer of Culture, decided this needed to be rectified.

What ensued was ... well, we had fun at any rate! Who knew Picasso actually painted things without bizarre asymmetrical faces? Well, clearly everyone except me, that's who! And I was slightly disappointed that neither Bill Nighy in bowtie nor the Doctor and Amy appeared in the Van Gogh gallery area, but the paintings were gorgeous!

We spent a bit of time ogling Heracles the Archer and making inappropriate Hawkeye comments, as you do, and then a bit later performed a rousing rendition of "I'm the Greatest Star" from Funny Girl as we perused various statuary and tapestries. We saw the Egyptian stuff (hieroglyphics are cool!), Rodin (baby Thinker!), American portraits (all pudding faced) and furniture, cool medieval stuff. I wasn't very impressed with Matisse, though I did like the Klee, and then we got to the modern art section.

*cough*

Yeah, I was less enamored with that part. They had a purple, yellow, and red vacuum cleaner that looked like a larger version of one I had by Fisher-Price as a kid. And then chairs that looked like things you could buy at IKEA. (And IKEA has nicer, cooler stuff!) I mean, sure, the Jackson Pollack they had was pretty cool to look at, but it's still splotches of paint. And Beth basically threatened to disown me when I remarked that another painting was "a TARDIS blue background with three rectangular colored stripes, and what's so impressive or artistic about that? I suck at art and I could paint something like that!"

And then there was the "Spectrum", and when Beth asked me what I thought about it, I said it looked like the swatches you get at the paint store and someone hung them on the wall. Art by Sherwin Williams.

Right, so it's been clearly established that I am a heathen with zero appreciation for (or understanding of!) modern art. But did I mention the awesome coconut cupcakes in the cafeteria? And Beth still loves me anyway, so all is well!

Time for another dose of cold medicine, and I think I'm going to try napping again. That is if I can tear myself away from the backlog of Earth_pics tweets.

reading is fundamental

Ugh. It's been two weeks since I've posted because I can't really think of anything to post about.

Well, anything interesting.

Well, anything interesting to people who aren't me. :-P

Of course there was the whole Russian Meteor thing, the investigation of which is ongoing. Almost made me want to watch Deep Impact and Armageddon again. (Apparently NASA scientists have found 168 factual inaccuracies in Armageddon and shows the movie as part of their management training programs for the express purpose of having the trainees point out as many as they can. Alas the article about that is behind a paid firewall on New Scientist. I can't imagine what they'd do with The Day After.)

Amateur that I am, I could definitely point out at least 25 ... okay, at least 30, without having in-depth understanding of the actual science behind it (Math!), but apparently they got one thing right about drilling and blowing up the asteroid to avert, er, Armageddon. Go figure. (It's a cool article!) Still, watching Steve Buscemi lose his shit on an asteroid will never not be entertaining, Bear is awesome, and the double shuttle launch scene was wicked cool!

Otherwise, besides work kicking my ass, I have been spending most of my time reading Avengers fic. To be more specific, reading Clint/Coulson fic. I am obsessed. (and it's still bethbethbeth's fault!) It's kind of pathetic, but I can't say that it hasn't been fun. Well, for certain values of fun, which, in Lisa-speak is me trying to rationalize having read both mpreg and A/B/O fic, those two tropes always being anathema to me, and maybekindasortof enjoying them. It's not that I'm embarrassed, because I like what I like, but it's more ...

I can totally see the appeal of A/B/O for people who like D/s situations, or the woobie factor (because those Omegas, man, yeesh!), or the male pregnancy thing. But the thing is, these are not kinks that tend to appeal to me. Well, the (extreme) hurt/comfort aspect does at times, though it absolutely varies based on the characters involved. With A/B/O there seems to be a lot of "h/c + Woobie-ism" involved, and I am not a fan of Woobie!Clint. (I'm not really a fan of Woobie!Anyone, though.) It's just not my thing. So that I find myself reading it, much less enjoying it is just plain weird and unexpected. The things we do in desperation. :-P

Ugh, fandom! Why do you do this to me?????

That said, it's not like I'm reading everything. There are SO MANY fics I've had to click out of because

"I couldn't take another instance of authors who punctuate their dialogue like this." She said.

One or two, here and there, is no big deal. Autocorrect has done that to me when I've accidentally typed a period instead of a comma, and it's an easy thing to miss. I'm talking the entire fic. Like that. Others were just plain terrible (to me) in grammar, format (line breaks, people!! LINE BREAKS!), execution, characterization or plot, but that's nothing new in fanfic.

I don't think I've been on this kind of a tunnel-vision reading bender since my early days in Remus/Sirius. It's nostalgic in a good way, but also VERY BAD because I have piles and piles of laundry and I really need to sweep/mop my floors and vacuum. And dust. Oh, god, dust, the bane of my existence. (Well, one of them.)

But it's Friday! (Friday, Friday) And I can chill for a bit. And lament that there's not enough new long fic for me to read. WRITE FASTER, PEOPLE! Or, I could write my own fic that I started the other night. A whopping 548 words so far. Go me.

Well, it's started snowing already. Big-ass flakes, too! No real accumulation yet, but that's not going to take too long. Did I mention the flakes are huge? red_squared - I wish I could send them to you!!!!

*yawn* Snow Day for me! I'm going back to sleep for a few hours. Also, apparently this storm is named Nemo. (Clearly the Captain, and not the cute little fishy.) Hopefully Nemo will stay in the ocean this time. So much pretty, so little time

Hurray the month of work hell is over! It wasn't too bad since I managed to escape last weekend for much ogling!

So Friday night, titti & I went to see Picnic with Mr Pouty-Lips Stan, and we were in the second row, and holy shit is that man beautiful! He was like ten six feet away from us at one point where his character is being all broody and emo, with his artfully torn shirt displaying a very pretty nipple, and I'm pretty sure I whimpered. Audibly.

Ellen Burstyn was fabulous, and Mare Winningham was good too, except I kept waiting for her to talk about making "the best damn peanut butter and jelly sandwich I ever had." Sebastian Stan could totally stand in for Rob Lowe! What? Maggie Grace is very pretty, but the only time she and SS had any real chemistry was when they were dancing. titti and I would have been more than happy to show her how to kiss him properly! :-P

It's a very dated play, which I knew going in, having seen the William Holden/Kim Novak movie with my mom a bunch of times when I was a kid. Still, Sebastian can call me baby anytime! We saw him very briefly after the show when he was getting into a cab on 8th Avenue. I didn't even notice him at first in his funky hat. titti had to point multiple times because I thought she was pointing to something across the street. Oops?

Saturday I met up with bethbethbeth and musesfool for 3-D fun with Jeremy Renner! (And I got comics and chocolate cupcakes and a little Hawkeye tattoo!) Now, if anyone, having seen the trailer, expects Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters to be, I don't know, a cinematic masterpiece ...

That said, the movie was fucking awesome! Hahahahaha! For certain values of awesome of course! First, the movie does not in any way take itself seriously. Not even a little bit. Second, Jeremy Renner was hot, and it was lovely to watch him get dragged through trees and bushes, and shoot things, and Gemma Arterton was ass-kicking and awesome. There was a bit of gore, but I just closed my eyes for the really nasty bits. Also, the movie TOTALLY ships H&G like whoa!

This is the best review that I've found. It's very spoilery, but there really isn't much to be spoiled for if you know the Grimm fairy tale and watched a trailer. They grow up and hunt witches with anachronistic weapons, and there's your story pretty much in the nutshell. It's a made-for-fandom kind of movie, and not just because of the incest vibes, but because, as I mentioned (and as glvalentine repeats in her awesome review) the movie does not take itself seriously at all. (Also, the opening credits animation is pretty damn cool just on its own.) I totally recommend it. It's 90 minutes of fun, but don't bother with the 3-D, unless you have a thing for it.

I got a manicure today (after 6+ weeks! My nails were ridiculous!) and I had them cut them short, and now it feels weird to type because my fingertips can actually touch the keys. I got a pedi too, but I don't type with my toes. Still, they feel pretty nice too!

Aaaand, shaggydogstail gave me five questions to answer for that meme thingy, and here they are:

memememememememeCollapse )

And that's about it for now. I may try to write some porn for torino10154's Second Annual Porn Sunday, since the Giants aren't in the Superbowl and I'm not invested in either the 49ers or the Ravens, and will just be there for the commercials and the occasional glimpses of New Orleans. If I write what I'm thinking of writing, it could possibly be the porniest thing I've ever written.

Squids are people too

Fandom Corrupts Absolutely

Remember how, once upon a time, you could see cool, funny, adorable, and even mundane ordinary things and NOT have your brain go directly to jail to the naughty places?

Yeah, me neither. BUT STILL! It would at least have gone on a slightly different trajectory. Maybe. Possibly.

So, two pervy fun fandomy things for today.

1. Scientists finally figure out how squids mate!

For all your squidporn needs! Clearly this is very important brand new information! (Especially if you're participating in tentaclebigbang!)

2. Yesterday, red_squared posted about this poor little otter who is crying while eating a watermelon --

but he keeps eating it anyway (pics!)Collapse )

Cute and AWWWWWW!-worthy, right?

Well, sure, except when you've been exposed to the Avengers kink meme and therefore aware that this exists and that's the first place your brain goes.

(link doesn't go directly to the fic(s). But there are links there. To keep the trauma minimal. Because I love you all.)

Otters should never read kinkmemes. Poor guy.

(The only disappointing thing is that not once does Hulk utter the words, "I carried a watermelon." Then again, he doesn't put Baby in the corner either. Smart Hulk.)

Fandom may have ruined me, (and in turn, you. You're welcome!) but you can't say that it isn't entertaining!

Awesome Video(s) of the Day

Ever wonder what the International Space Station is actually like? Wonder no more as Commander Sunita Williams gives a personal tour! (This was posted a couple months ago, and dammit, I can't believe I'm just hearing about it/seeing it now.) It's long, especially for a youtube vid (25 mins) but worth every minute. It's seriously one of the coolest things ever! Also? FLUFF!! IN SPACE!!

hat tip: The Dish

In other Awesome Vid of the Day news, Kim Jaejoong has released the video for his first solo album, Mine. It's Korean J-Rock, and Jae's voice is awesome as always. The vid is gothic vampy bondage with shirtless tattooed Jae eye-candy, which is reason enough to watch it no matter your views on the music.

You will be Mine, you will be Mine, all MineCollapse )

Happy Wednesday!

Avengers - Cap-Hawk-Widow

Avengers Recs

I am really really bad when it comes to recs. But since I've been reading a lot, and onehundredmoons said she was stalking my comments of my last post for recs, I figured, after putting a bunch together in comments for her, that I should probably make a post.

I've mostly been reading Clint/Coulson fics - it's become my new drug. I know there are a number of people who balk at the pairing, claiming that they had no scenes together in the Avengers movie so therefore the ship is invalid, but A) since when has that EVER mattered in fandom? and B) the movie Thor clearly established that they have a working relationship of some sort, and we can surmise that they (and Natasha) have both been working for S.H.I.E.L.D for a fairly significant amount of time. In Avengers, the depth (or lack thereof) of Coulson's "Barton's been compromised." to Natasha can be read however you choose.

More to the point, I like it, so that's really all that matters to me and I've never been all that concerned with other people's opinions when it comes to my personal tastes. I like what I like. (My concerns tend to stem from feeling I've fallen off a cliff into the abyss of obsession, and that I should probably check myself before I end up on the astral plane wearing a little tin hat, but that's mostly for my own sanity. I have some standards! Occasionally ... :-P)

Right, so recs. These are all fics that I have read and enjoyed. Some of them have tropes that I'm a little iffy on (I still don't get the "Hawkeye likes to crawl around in ducts" thing, mostly because they must be some seriously big-ass ducts! Which, architecturally (and security-wise!) speaking, is not very practical. And strong! What are they made of? Vibranium?) and there may be a few scattered typos, a boot or flat instead of trunk and apartment, and one fic in particular has a "There is no such street in NYC! Wrong wrong wrong!" thing, but it was a good, well-written story aside from that teeny issue, and really, the fact that I'm a NYer is the reason it jarred me. (But still, Google maps is your friend, people!) Ahem. Okay, so as I was saying, these are stories I really liked. YMMV.

Recs! 18 stories/series for your reading pleasure!Collapse )

Alrighty then! There you go. Now I feel a little less fail-y.
